Just 12 hours after renovation work began, the district office of the National Party (Jatiya Party – Japa) in Bogura was attacked again, resulting in fresh damage. The incident occurred on Friday (1 August) around 10 pm, when newly repaired sections of the office were vandalised and destroyed. This follows a previous attack on the office in February of this year.

Background of Previous Attacks

Date Event
6 February 2023 Angry students and locals affiliated with the suspended Awami League attacked and set fire to the district offices of Awami League, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JASAD), and National Party in Bogura. Since then, the Japa office remained in a dilapidated state.

 

Recent Renovation and Attack Details

Date Friday, 1 August 2023
Renovation Start 10 am: Japa leaders and activists began brickwork restoration on the front part of the office
Attack Time Approximately 10 pm: A group of youths on three motorcycles vandalised the newly repaired brickwork and fled quickly
Police Response Police arrived on the scene after receiving the report; no Japa leaders or activists were present at that time

 

Official Statements

  • Investigator Mahfuz Alam of Bogura Sadar Police stated:

“Upon receiving the information, we inspected the site. The renovation work was ongoing when a group of youths launched a vandalism attack under the cover of darkness.”

“So far, no written complaint has been submitted regarding the incident. Once a formal complaint is received, legal action will be taken.”

  • National Party Response:
    No statements have been received from any Japa leaders concerning the latest attack as of now.
