Attack on Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader’s Uttara Residence

The residence of Jatiya Party chairman GM Quader in Uttara, Dhaka, came under attack on Monday morning, with a group of assailants reportedly throwing bricks and stones at the property while the politician was inside.

The incident took place at around 11am, according to information provided by the party. The attack prompted the police to visit the scene, and legal action was being considered, officials said.

Shaurya Dipta Surya, press secretary to the Jatiya Party chairman, said a group of assailants began hurling bricks and stones at the residence at around 10.40am on Monday. The police were informed shortly after the incident, and officers subsequently arrived at the location.

He added that the party would announce its next course of action in due course. No further details were immediately available regarding the extent of damage to the property or whether anyone had been injured.

Khalid Mansur, officer-in-charge of Uttara West Police Station, confirmed that police had been dispatched to the residence after receiving information about the attack.

“We sent police to the scene immediately after receiving the information. The process of taking legal action is under way,” he said.

According to sources within the Jatiya Party, the incident was preceded by a procession outside GM Quader’s residence. The demonstrators reportedly gathered under the banner of ‘Anti-Autocracy General People’ and chanted slogans against the Jatiya Party chairman.

The situation subsequently escalated, with protesters allegedly throwing a large number of bricks and stones towards the residence. GM Quader was reportedly inside the house when the incident occurred.

The precise circumstances that led to the confrontation, including the identities of those involved and the immediate reasons behind the protest, were not established in the initial accounts. The allegations regarding the attack and the sequence of events were reported by party sources, while the police confirmed their response to the incident.

The episode comes against a backdrop of political tensions in Bangladesh, where demonstrations and confrontations involving political figures and party offices have periodically raised concerns about public order and political security. Attacks on private residences of political leaders can also heighten tensions, particularly when protests develop into acts of violence.

However, the available information did not establish whether the incident was part of a wider organised campaign or an isolated confrontation. Any determination of responsibility would require further investigation and corroboration of the accounts provided by those involved.

The police response and the legal process will be central to establishing what happened at the residence, identifying those responsible and determining whether any offences were committed. Further information from the authorities and the Jatiya Party is expected to clarify the extent of the damage, the circumstances surrounding the attack and any subsequent action by law enforcement agencies.

As of the initial reports, no detailed statement had been provided about arrests or the outcome of the investigation.
