A notorious gang leader was shot dead in broad daylight on Monday evening following an internal dispute with his close associates in Siddhirganj, Narayanganj. The deceased, identified as Saheb Ali, faced at least 20 criminal cases across various police stations, primarily involving armed robbery, extortion, and violent crimes.
The fatal incident occurred around 6:00 pm on 12 October outside Al Ittehad Tower, situated near the bustling Boubazar area under Ward 4 of the Narayanganj City Corporation. According to eyewitness accounts, Saheb Ali met two of his close associates—locally identified as Roni and Aslam, a painter by profession—at the location. What began as a meeting quickly escalated into a heated altercation driven by longstanding internal rivalries and disputes over criminal operations.
During the confrontation, Roni and Aslam drew firearms and fired directly at Saheb Ali at point-blank range. The gunshots struck him in the head and chest, causing severe injuries and profuse bleeding. The sudden gunfire triggered panic throughout the busy market area, causing shopkeepers and pedestrians to scatter for safety as the attackers fled the scene.
Local residents and passers-by rushed to the spot immediately after the gunmen escaped. They rescued the critically injured gang leader and transported him to the Emergency Department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Upon arrival, duty doctors conducted a preliminary examination and declared him dead on arrival due to catastrophic blood loss and severe head trauma.
Officer-in-Charge of Siddhirganj Police Station, Mohammad Emdadul Huq, confirmed the casualty and stated that law enforcement officers arrived at the crime scene shortly after receiving the report. Police have secured the perimeter, gathered physical evidence, and begun analysing closed-circuit television footage from Al Ittehad Tower and surrounding commercial establishments to track down the fleeing suspects.
Detectives suspect that the killing was a targeted hit stemming from internal feuds over the distribution of illicit gains or leadership rivalries within the gang. A man-hunt is currently underway across Narayanganj and adjacent districts to apprehend Roni and Aslam. Meanwhile, Saheb Ali’s body remains at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue pending an autopsy as formal legal proceedings commence.
