Residents and business owners across Ulipur upazila in Kurigram will experience a temporary seven-hour power outage on Tuesday due to crucial infrastructure maintenance and vegetation management along high-voltage transmission lines. The interruption, scheduled to run from 8:00 am until 3:00 pm, was formally announced by the Ulipur Zonal Office under the Kurigram-Lalmonirhat Palli Bidyut Samity on Monday, 12 October.
The planned power suspension is necessary to facilitate emergency repair works on the primary 33-kilovolt (kV) distribution line supplying electricity to the region. According to power utility officials, engineers will carry out vital technical maintenance to stabilize voltage regulation, upgrade aging hardware, and resolve underlying operational vulnerabilities. In tandem with the physical repairs, maintenance crews will trim overhanging tree branches and clear vegetation encroaching upon power lines to prevent future outages triggered by adverse weather or branch fall.
The shutdown will affect residential, commercial, and institutional consumers falling within the operational coverage of the Ulipur Zonal Office, including the central municipal area and surrounding rural unions. Local authorities have advised residents to plan accordingly for disruptions to water supply pumps, automated banking services, healthcare units, and electricity-dependent commercial enterprises during the designated maintenance window.
Utility representatives emphasized that technical crews will work to restore power as swiftly and safely as possible. Should maintenance tasks finish ahead of schedule, normal grid operations and electricity distribution will resume earlier than anticipated.
Addressing the scheduled disruption, Chirendra Nath Roy, Acting Deputy General Manager of the Ulipur Zonal Office, confirmed that the temporary shutdown remains essential to ensure long-term grid stability and uninterrupted service delivery across the district. He offered a formal apology on behalf of the electricity authority for the inconvenience caused to consumers during the execution of these essential grid upgrades.
