Madrasa Teacher and Two Students Charged Following Schoolgirl’s Pregnancy

Police in Shyamnagar, Satkhira, have launched a man-hunt for a madrasa teacher and two male students after a Year 6 schoolgirl was found to be pregnant following repeated sexual assaults. The victim’s maternal grandmother lodged a formal rape complaint on Monday at Shyamnagar Police Station, naming 36-year-old teacher Noor Alam Sardar alongside two students from Years 8 and 10 at the same institution.
The victim had been residing with her grandmother in Shyamnagar for the past five years while attending the local madrasa. Her mother works in the Middle East to support the family, while her father resides in Sharsha Upazila, Sharsha.
According to the First Information Report, the ordeal began in December last year when the Year 10 student secretly recorded a video of the young girl bathing. He subsequently shared the recording with the Year 8 student. Threatening to circulate the footage on social media, the two students coerced and repeatedly assaulted the child in her grandmother’s absence between 2 January and July.
The complaint further details an allegation against the teacher, Noor Alam Sardar, who frequented the residence as both a neighbour and an educator. On 10 February, taking advantage of the grandmother’s absence, Sardar reportedly offered the girl a drink spiked with a sedative before assaulting her once she became drowsy.
Fearing public embarrassment and further intimidation, the child kept the abuse secret. Her condition came to light on 5 October when her health deteriorated noticeably. Her grandmother brought her to a diagnostic centre in Sharsha, where medical examinations confirmed the pregnancy. Upon gentle questioning, the girl disclosed the details of the systematic abuse.
Following news of the pregnancy, all three suspects absconded from the locality. Phone calls to the accused were unanswered, while Sardar’s wife declined to comment when approached.
The headteacher of the madrasa confirmed that an internal inquiry committee has been formed to investigate the allegations against Sardar. A formal show-cause notice was issued to him on Monday, requiring a written response within three days.
Shyamnagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Safiul Islam, confirmed that a case has been registered and operational teams are actively conducting drives to track down and arrest the three named suspects. Distraught by the tragic turn of events, the child’s grandmother appealed for swift justice, stating that her granddaughter’s life had been shattered and expressing her reliance on law enforcement authorities to hold those responsible to account.
