Woman Dies in Madhabdi; Husband Accused of Killing Her

A 38-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her husband following a domestic dispute over an alleged extramarital relationship and financial difficulties in Hamti village, Madhabdi, in Narsingdi on Tuesday morning. The accused, identified as Jasim Uddin, has reportedly been absconding since the incident.

The victim, Rehana Begum, died after allegedly being struck on the head during an argument with her husband at around 6am on 13 October. The incident took place in Mahishasura Union under Narsingdi Sadar Upazila.

Rehana and Jasim had two daughters. Jasim, who worked at a textile mill, had reportedly been unemployed for some time. According to local residents and police sources, tensions over household expenses had frequently led to arguments between the couple.

The couple had also been experiencing marital problems for a prolonged period. Jasim was allegedly involved in a relationship with another woman, an issue that reportedly triggered repeated disputes between him and Rehana. His employment difficulties and the resulting financial strain further aggravated the situation.

On Tuesday morning, the couple’s two daughters left home to attend a local maktab, an Islamic religious learning centre. After they had left, another argument reportedly broke out between Rehana and Jasim. During the confrontation, Jasim allegedly struck his wife on the head, causing her death at the scene.

Following the incident, Jasim reportedly fled the house. Police were informed and subsequently arrived at the scene to recover Rehana’s body. The body was later sent to the morgue at Narsingdi Sadar Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Madhabdi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kamal Hossain confirmed that officers had recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination. He said the accused husband remained at large and that legal proceedings were under way.

The circumstances surrounding Rehana’s death remain subject to investigation. The post-mortem findings and other evidence are expected to help establish the cause of death and clarify the events leading up to the incident.

The case has also raised concerns about the future of the couple’s two daughters, who have lost their mother while their father remains at large. Police are expected to take further legal action as the investigation progresses.
