According to the First Information Report, the assault took place at approximately 2:00 pm on 7 October in the Ghagra East Neighbourhood within Ghagra Union. The suspect, a fellow resident of the village, had reportedly been lingering around the elderly woman’s dwelling for some time and making inappropriate advances towards her.

On the day of the incident, the victim was resting alone inside her home. Taking advantage of her vulnerability and isolation, the suspect allegedly entered the premises uninvited and assaulted her.

The crime was interrupted when a female neighbour visited the residence to check on the victim. Sensing something amiss upon approaching the entrance, the neighbour stepped inside and discovered the suspect in a compromising position with the elderly woman. Her immediate screams alerted nearby villagers, forcing the perpetrator to escape from the scene before local residents could apprehend him.

Explaining the delay in lodging the formal police complaint, the victim’s son stated that the family initially attempted to address the matter through informal local mediation. However, when these efforts yielded no resolution or accountability, the family consulted senior relatives and decided to seek legal recourse through law enforcement authorities.

Officer-in-Charge of Purbadhala Police Station, Md Abdullah Al Mamun, confirmed on Tuesday evening that a case has been officially registered under the relevant sections of the law. Medical examinations for the elderly victim have been completed at a local healthcare facility to collect necessary forensic evidence. Police teams are currently conducting raids across suspected hideouts to locate and arrest the absconding suspect.
