Two Extortionists Arrested in Military Operation in Thakurgaon

In an operation conducted by the army in Ranisankail Upazila of Thakurgaon district, two extortionists were caught red-handed.

On Sunday morning (3 August), the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ranisankail Police Station, Muhammad Arshadul Haque, confirmed the incident.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Raju Mia (26) and Anwar Hossain (27). Along with them, the collected extortion money and receipts were seized.

According to sources, based on a secret tip-off, a patrol team led by Major Naim, camp commander of the army, carried out the operation on the night of Friday (1 August). The operation took place near the Madrasa Mor area in Ranisankail Upazila, where the two extortionists were apprehended while collecting money from a truck driver.

Police reported that these two had been involved in extortion for a long time. The army’s intervention has brought relief to the local community. According to locals, the extortionists’ reign of terror had made life unbearable for ordinary people.

Officer-in-Charge Muhammad Arshadul Haque further stated that after completing the legal procedures, the two accused were sent to jail through the court. He also confirmed that similar operations against extortionists will continue in the future.
