Harry Kane has added another milestone to his remarkable goalscoring career, surpassing Lionel Messi’s tally of Champions League goals scored after the age of 30. The Bayern Munich striker is now chasing further records held by Cristiano Ronaldo as he continues to demonstrate his consistency in Europe’s premier club competition.
Kane scored twice in Bayern Munich’s 3–3 draw against Viking in the Champions League, extending his impressive run in front of goal. Although Bayern were unable to secure all three points, the England international’s performance brought him a significant individual achievement.
Since turning 30, Kane has scored 36 goals in the Champions League, moving ahead of Messi, whose tally stands at 35. The comparison is even more striking when appearances are taken into account. Kane has reached his total in 40 matches, eight fewer than the 48 appearances made by the former Argentina captain in the same age category.
Messi’s record in European football remains exceptional. The Argentine, who captained his country to the 2022 World Cup title, won the Champions League four times with Barcelona and established himself as one of the competition’s most prolific forwards. Kane’s latest achievement underlines his ability to maintain a high scoring rate well into his thirties.
However, Ronaldo remains ahead of both players in this particular category. The Portugal captain has scored 68 Champions League goals after turning 30, achieving the feat in 74 appearances. Kane still has a considerable gap to close, but his current scoring form gives him an opportunity to add further milestones to his career.
Kane Closes In on Ronaldo’s Consecutive Scoring Record
The Bayern forward is also pursuing Ronaldo’s record for scoring in consecutive Champions League matches. His brace against Viking extended his scoring streak in the competition to nine successive games, placing him alongside Robert Lewandowski and former Netherlands international Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Ronaldo holds the record among the players mentioned, having scored in 11 consecutive Champions League matches. The Portuguese forward’s achievement reflects the extraordinary consistency that has characterised his career at the highest level of European club football.
Kane is now two matches away from equalling that mark. Maintaining his run would put him within reach of another notable record and reinforce his status as one of the competition’s most reliable goalscorers.
His performances this season have already been impressive. Across all competitions, the 33-year-old has scored eight goals in nine appearances and provided four assists. These figures highlight his contribution to Bayern’s attack, where he offers more than simply a finishing touch in front of goal.
Kane’s ability to combine goalscoring with creating chances for team-mates makes him a central figure in Bayern’s attacking approach. His movement, positioning and finishing have helped him remain productive against different opponents, while his experience continues to be an important asset.
The Champions League presents a demanding test of consistency, with teams facing a variety of tactical approaches and high-quality opposition. Sustaining a goalscoring streak across successive matches requires both individual form and the ability to capitalise on opportunities when they arise.
By moving ahead of Messi in the tally of Champions League goals scored after the age of 30, Kane has already reached a significant landmark. Ronaldo’s records remain further away, but the England captain’s recent performances have brought those achievements into focus.
If Kane continues to score at his current rate, he will have opportunities to challenge more of the competition’s established records. For now, his immediate targets are to extend his nine-match scoring streak and move closer to Ronaldo’s benchmark of 11 consecutive games with a goal.
