Mehazabien Angered by Spread of Fake AI-Generated Content

Actress Mehazabien Chowdhury has spoken out against the creation and circulation of false content using artificial intelligence (AI), describing attempts to humiliate individuals through fabricated material as a criminal act rather than entertainment. She has also questioned the sense of responsibility among social media users who share such content and help it reach wider audiences.

In a Facebook post on Thursday morning (15 October), Mehazabien expressed concern over the growing tendency to use someone’s humiliation as a means of gaining views, likes, shares or even a small amount of money. She questioned whether such practices could ever be considered acceptable in the pursuit of online popularity or financial gain.

“Creating false and fabricated content about someone using AI and spreading it with the intention of humiliating them is not entertainment. It is a crime,” she wrote.

According to the actress, the problem extends beyond the person who initially creates the material. When hundreds or thousands of people share such content, the consequences become a wider social concern, raising questions about public attitudes, moral values and individual responsibility.

AI technology has made it increasingly possible to manipulate photographs, videos and voices, sometimes producing material that misrepresents reality. When fabricated content is presented as genuine, it can mislead audiences and damage the reputation and dignity of the person targeted. Mehazabien’s comments highlight the importance of recognising and addressing the harmful use of such technology.

The actress also questioned why people should need to be related to someone before treating them with respect. Rather than considering how they would react if the same incident happened to their own mother or sister, she urged people to recognise the dignity of every individual, regardless of personal relationships.

Mehazabien acknowledged the realities of the social media industry, where competition for views, likes, shares and trending status has become a familiar feature. For many people, creating online content is a means of earning a living, and she said she did not dismiss the struggles they face.

However, she challenged the idea that another person’s humiliation and disrespect could become an acceptable source of income. The need to earn a living, she suggested, should not justify behaviour that undermines someone else’s dignity.

The actress observed that the harmful creation and circulation of such content are no longer issues affecting only women or men. In the race for views and engagement, anyone could become involved in producing or spreading misleading material, while anyone could also become a victim.

She therefore urged people to consider not only the responsibility of content creators but also the role of those who distribute their work. Sharing an insulting or fabricated post, discussing it extensively or forwarding it to more people can increase the harm caused to the individual concerned.

Social media users should not assume that content is harmless simply because it has gone viral. Checking its authenticity, purpose and potential consequences before sharing it is particularly important when AI-generated or manipulated images and videos are involved. Without proper verification, misleading material can spread rapidly and create false impressions.

In the closing section of her post, Mehazabien encouraged users to reflect on their own conscience and responsibility.

“Think about whether you want to become part of a criminal’s wrongdoing and reveal your own lack of conscience,” she wrote.

Her message highlights the need for responsible use of technology as AI becomes more accessible. The pursuit of online popularity or financial gain should not come at the expense of another person’s dignity, while social media users must recognise that sharing harmful material can also contribute to its spread.
