Bangladeshi leg-spinner Rishad Hossain is set to feature in Australia’s Big Bash League once again after retaining his spot with the Hobart Hurricanes for the upcoming 16th edition of the tournament. The Tasmanian franchise announced the decision across their social media platforms on Thursday, confirming that the 22-year-old bowler will rejoin the squad following an impressive debut campaign.
Rishad made a significant impact during his maiden season with the Hurricanes, where he emerged as one of the standout slow bowlers in the competition. Over the course of 12 appearances, he claimed 15 wickets, finishing as the team’s leading wicket-taker and earning widespread acclaim for his ability to control the middle overs. His performances provided crucial breakthroughs, rapidly establishing him as a key figure in the franchise’s bowling attack.
The decision to retain Rishad reinforces Hobart’s strategy to build a formidable spin unit. In an exciting development for the team, Rishad will pair up with Australian international leg-spinner Adam Zampa, who has made the switch to the Hurricanes after departing the Melbourne Renegades. The prospect of tandem leg-spin offers Hobart an added layer of tactical flexibility, combining Zampa’s extensive international experience with Rishad’s energetic trajectory and variation.
Salliann Beams, General Manager of High Performance at the Hobart Hurricanes, expressed her enthusiasm regarding Rishad’s return. She noted that the young cricketer thoroughly enjoyed his time with the squad last season and was eager to commit to another stint. The management prioritized securing his services based on both his potential and his clear enthusiasm for returning to the club.
Under the agreed terms, Rishad will be available for the initial eight matches of the campaign. The 16th season of the Big Bash League is scheduled to commence on 12 December, with Hobart Hurricanes launching their tournament against the Brisbane Heat on 17 December. His early presence is expected to play a pivotal role as the Hurricanes look to set a strong tone at the start of the competition.
