Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff has reportedly survived an armed attack in Mumbai’s Juhu area after gunmen opened fire at his BMW as he returned from a football ground. At least five shots were allegedly fired at the actor, while an attempt to discharge a sixth round failed when the weapon jammed at close range. The incident has raised fresh concerns about the safety of prominent figures in India’s entertainment industry.
According to a report published by NDTV on Monday, 19 October, three men arrived on a motorcycle and allegedly targeted Shroff’s vehicle. Two of the men reportedly fired directly at the car, leaving the actor’s driver, identified as Ferdous, and another person nearby injured.
The attack unfolded in a matter of moments, creating a potentially life-threatening situation for those inside and around the vehicle. The alleged failure of the firearm during the attempted sixth shot may have prevented the assault from escalating further. However, the precise sequence of events and the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain matters for investigators to establish.
Actor Takes the Wheel After Driver Is Injured
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Shroff reportedly took control of the BMW after his driver was injured. He then drove the vehicle to a hospital to ensure that the injured man received medical attention.
The reported decision to drive the wounded driver to hospital came amid the confusion following the attack. While the full extent of the victims’ injuries has not been independently established in the information available, the incident highlights the dangers posed by armed attacks in busy urban neighbourhoods.
Closed-circuit television (CCTV) recordings and other video footage are reportedly among the material being examined in connection with the case. Such evidence can help investigators reconstruct the suspects’ movements, establish the sequence of the shooting and identify those involved.
The police investigation is expected to focus on the three individuals who allegedly arrived on the motorcycle, the weapon used in the attack and the circumstances that led to Shroff being targeted.
Audio Message Claims Responsibility for Attack
Shortly after the incident, a man named Anil Pandit reportedly claimed responsibility for the shooting in an audio message, identifying himself as a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
According to the reported contents of the message, Shroff was targeted because of his alleged closeness to fellow Bollywood actor Salman Khan and because he had purportedly failed to comply with the group’s instructions.
These allegations have not, however, been independently verified. A claim of responsibility does not by itself establish who organised or carried out an attack, and investigators will need to determine whether the speaker has any genuine connection to the perpetrators.
The alleged reference to Salman Khan has also drawn attention to the wider security concerns surrounding prominent Bollywood personalities. Khan has previously been associated with reported threats linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, making any alleged connection between the two actors and the latest incident a matter of considerable public interest.
Nevertheless, the precise motive behind the shooting remains unconfirmed. It would be premature to treat the claims made in the audio message as established facts before the police have completed their inquiries.
Maharashtra Government Promises Firm Action
The Maharashtra state government has reportedly pledged swift and stringent action in response to the incident. Mumbai Police have also detained one person suspected of involvement, according to the report.
Investigators are working to establish the identities and respective roles of those involved. The examination of CCTV footage, the suspects’ movements and other available evidence could prove crucial in determining how the attack was planned and whether additional individuals were involved.
Authorities will also need to assess the authenticity and origin of the audio message, including whether it can be reliably linked to the shooting. Establishing the source of the firearm and tracing the movements of the alleged attackers may provide further evidence.
Police have reportedly confirmed that Shroff is safe in Mumbai following the incident. However, details about the investigation, the detained individual and any further arrests will need to be established through official statements as the case progresses.
Renewed Questions Over Celebrity Security
The reported attack has brought the security of high-profile entertainers back into focus. Bollywood actors often attract considerable public attention, and their movements between professional commitments, recreational activities and private engagements can create security challenges.
An armed attack in an urban neighbourhood also poses risks beyond the intended target. Drivers, pedestrians, local residents and other bystanders can all be caught in the line of fire, making the swift identification and arrest of those responsible a matter of public safety.
For investigators, the immediate priorities are to establish the sequence of events, identify all those involved and determine whether the shooting was organised in advance. The alleged motive and the claimed connection to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang will also require ca
