Madrasa Teacher Arrested Over Alleged Rape Attempt on Child Student

Police in Daulatpur, Kushtia, have arrested a 42-year-old madrasa teacher over allegations that he attempted to rape a nine-year-old female student. The arrest followed a written complaint by the child’s mother, after which police registered a case and conducted an operation on Tuesday night.

Khaledur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Daulatpur Police Station, confirmed the arrest on Wednesday, 21 October. He said the accused had been sent to court after the completion of the necessary legal procedures.

The arrested man, identified as Saeed Hossain, also known as Nannu, is a resident of Pakuria village in Pragpur Union, Daulatpur Upazila. He was employed as a teacher at Darul Abrar Madrasa in the same village. His father was the late Affan Doctor.

According to police and local sources, the child is a Year Three pupil at the madrasa. The alleged incident took place at around 2pm on 14 October, when additional classes were being held in preparation for a competition.

During the extra classes, Saeed allegedly persuaded the child to enter the madrasa’s office room. He is accused of fastening the door latch and attempting to sexually assault her against her will.

The child’s cries reportedly alerted her classmates and several local women, who rushed towards the room. According to local accounts, the accused fled from the office carrying his jubba and pyjama after becoming aware of their presence. The child subsequently described what had allegedly happened to those who came to her assistance.

The incident prompted attempts by local people and family members to settle the matter informally. However, the child’s mother refused to accept such a resolution and decided to seek legal action.

On 20 October, she submitted a written complaint to Daulatpur Police Station. Police subsequently registered a case and launched an operation to locate the accused. He was arrested on Tuesday night.

OC Khaledur Rahman said the allegation concerned an incident during the additional classes arranged for the competition. According to the complaint, the other pupils had left while the child was allegedly kept behind. The teacher is accused of attempting to assault her during that period.

The officer reiterated that police had acted after receiving the mother’s complaint and that the accused had been forwarded to court following his arrest.

The case has drawn attention to the importance of safeguarding children in educational institutions. Schools and madrasas are expected to provide a safe environment in which pupils can learn without fear of abuse or exploitation. Allegations involving children require careful investigation, with particular attention to the child’s safety, privacy and emotional well-being.

The allegations against Saeed Hossain have yet to be established through judicial proceedings. The investigation and subsequent legal process will determine the facts of the case and whether the accused is guilty of the offence alleged.
