Four individuals, including a notorious drug kingpin from Bogura, have been apprehended during a high-stakes joint operation in Joypurhat’s Kalai upazila.
The raid was carried out on Friday, 23 October, by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Joypurhat Battalion (20 BGB), working alongside local police and officers from the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC). Acting on credible intelligence, the team targeted a secluded pond bank in the Panchagram area of Punat Union, arresting three men and one woman. A local Union Parishad member witnessed the operation.
Among those detained is Afia Ferdousi Mim, 25, a resident of the Chalopara neighbourhood in Bogura Sadar, who is widely recognised by authorities as a key figure in regional narcotics distribution. The other suspects were identified as Delowar Hossain, 35, and Sanowar Hossain, 32, both hailing from Panchagram, alongside Anjuman, 32, from Deogram village.
Official records released by the BGB highlight the long-standing criminal activities of the suspects. Delowar Hossain currently faces three narcotics-related cases and had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. Sanowar Hossain has two prior cases recorded against him and has previously served time following a past arrest.
Security personnel recovered a substantial haul of illicit pharmaceutical drugs alongside personal electronics and cash during the sweep. The seized items include 180 tablets of Indian Tapentadol valued at 54,000 taka and 102 ampoules of Buprenorphine-based Cupigesic injections worth 30,600 taka. Law enforcement also confiscated two smartphones valued at 60,000 taka and 13,010 taka in cash, bringing the total estimated value of the seized property to 157,610 taka.
The Joint Task Force initiated the raid following specific actionable intelligence discussed during the monthly meeting of the District Law and Order Core Committee. Authorities confirmed that Mim was formally handed over to Kalai Police Station at approximately 4:30 am on Friday. Proceedings to transfer the remaining three suspects and the seized evidence into police custody are underway.
Border Guard Bangladesh reiterated its strict commitment to a zero-tolerance policy regarding cross-border smuggling and illicit drugs. Representatives emphasized that joint security operations will continue unabated across the border districts, urging local residents to actively assist law enforcement in combating narcotics trafficking, human smuggling, and illegal border crossings.
