An 18-year-old farmer was brutally hacked to death after being summoned from his home under mysterious circumstances in Sirajganj’s Ullapara upazila on Friday evening.
The victim has been identified as Akram Hossein, a resident of Khosalpur village and the son of local resident Abdur Rahim. Law enforcement authorities confirmed the incident on Saturday, confirming that a suspect has been taken into police custody in connection with the homicide.
According to local accounts and statements provided by the victim’s family, the tragedy unfolded in Konagati village, located within the jurisdiction of Ullapara sub-district. The principal suspect, identified as Maruf Bin Habib Talukdar, son of Noor Mohammad Talukdar, allegedly called Akram to his residence on Friday evening. Shortly after Akram’s arrival, Maruf launched a violent attack, repeatedly striking the teenager with sharp, heavy weapons and leaving him mortally wounded.
The crime came to light when neighbours noticed Akram’s bloodied body lying motionless in the courtyard of Maruf’s family residence. Horrified onlookers immediately alerted local authorities, prompting a team from the Ullapara Model Police Station to rush to the scene. Officers recovered the victim’s body and dispatched it for formal post-mortem examination to ascertain the precise cause of death.
Police swiftly located and apprehended Maruf Bin Habib Talukdar from the vicinity. Following his arrest, a sense of panic spread through the suspect’s household, leading his family members to abandon their home and flee the village to evade public outrage or potential retribution.
Providing an official update on the investigation, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ullapara Model Police Station, Mehedi Hasan, verified that the primary suspect is currently in custody.
“The suspect, Maruf, was arrested shortly after the incident was reported and has been brought to the police station,” OC Hasan stated. “He is currently undergoing intensive interrogation to establish the precise motive behind this gruesome killing. We are looking into all potential angles, including personal disputes and pre-existing conflicts between the parties involved.”
Investigators are currently collecting forensic evidence from the crime scene, while police personnel remain deployed in the area to maintain order and prevent further civil unrest following the sudden displacement of the suspect’s family.
