Mother Defends Reciter Tashreef Against Father’s Neglect Allegations

A bitter domestic dispute within the family of prominent Islamic reciter Hafez Zubayer Ahmad Tashreef has surfaced publicly following conflicting claims made by his parents. Responding to recent allegations raised by his father, Maulana Hedayetullah, Tashreef’s mother has firmly denied the charges, characterising them as a deliberate conspiracy fuelled by financial greed and professional jealousy.

In a video interview published on Tuesday, 27 October, Tashreef’s mother countered her husband’s assertions that their son had abandoned him in his old age. Instead, she painted a troubling portrait of domestic instability, claiming that Maulana Hedayetullah had contracted between 17 and 18 marriages over his lifetime. She revealed that by the time she wed him, he had already been married seven or eight times.

Addressing the accusations that Tashreef fails to provide maintenance or financial assistance, his mother dismissed the claims as entirely baseless. She explained that Tashreef had routinely provided his father with a monthly stipend ranging between 20,000 and 30,000 Bangladeshi Taka. According to her account, these payments were only temporarily suspended two to three months ago following an intense family dispute.

She alleged that her husband’s actions stem from an inability to accept their son’s rising public stature and financial success. Influenced by external voices and his current wife—Tashreef’s stepmother—Maulana Hedayetullah reportedly grew resentful of the disparity between his son’s prominence and his own situation. “He simply cannot accept that his son has reached such heights while he remains where he is,” she stated, adding that her husband had routinely subjected her to physical and mental strain in the past, demanding wealth from her paternal family due to his avarice.

The public feud erupted after Maulana Hedayetullah granted a media interview accusing his son of neglect. The elder cleric claimed that despite sacrificing immensely to raise and educate Tashreef, his son had severed ties and refused to cover crucial medical expenses during his illness.

Public figures and social media personalities in Bangladesh frequently face intense public scrutiny regarding their personal lives. Disputes over family maintenance, filial responsibilities, and Islamic marital conduct often trigger widespread public debate, blending traditional family values with modern media exposure. As the conflicting narratives circulate, Tashreef’s mother expressed confidence that the tension would subside once financial arrangements are resumed, though the public nature of the rift continues to draw significant attention.
