One Ticket, Two Matches: SAFF Sets Prices Ahead of Dhaka Tournament

The SAFF Championship is set to begin at Dhaka’s National Stadium on 5 November, with spectators able to watch two group-stage matches on a single ticket. The South Asian Football Federation (SAFF), the governing body for football in the region, has approved the arrangement as part of efforts to make the tournament more accessible to fans.

Ticket prices have also been finalised, ranging from Tk 1,000 for general gallery seating to Tk 10,000 for a corporate box. The announcement came after a joint co-ordination meeting between the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) and SAFF on Tuesday, where officials discussed preparations for the competition, stadium conditions, security arrangements and ticketing.

Two matches will be played each day during the group stage. Under the new arrangement, spectators will not need to purchase separate tickets to watch both matches scheduled for a particular day, allowing them to enjoy a full day of football with a single admission ticket.

SAFF General Secretary Purushottam Kattel said the meeting focused on ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for spectators. Officials reviewed the condition of the playing surface and discussed arrangements for the stadium’s inner, outer and VIP gates.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Kattel said the discussions with the BFF covered the pitch, matches, ticket prices and security measures. Particular attention was given to how guests and ordinary spectators would enter the stadium and how access could be managed smoothly throughout the tournament.

He said the main objective was to work jointly with the BFF to ensure that the arrangements were implemented effectively and that spectators could enter the venue without unnecessary difficulties and enjoy the matches in a secure environment.

Ticket prices range from Tk 1,000 to Tk 10,000

Ticket sales are expected to begin on Thursday, with supporters able to purchase tickets online. Prices have been set according to seating categories, offering several options for spectators wishing to attend the matches.

General gallery tickets will cost Tk 1,000, while tickets for the club house have been priced at Tk 4,000. VIP tickets will cost Tk 7,000. The price of a seat in the Red Box has been set at Tk 8,000, although those tickets have already sold out. Corporate box tickets will be the most expensive, at Tk 10,000.

The prices have prompted some dissatisfaction among football supporters, with concerns over the cost of attending the tournament. While the single-ticket arrangement allows fans to watch two matches in one day, the overall expense may remain a consideration for those planning to attend.

BFF Competition Committee Chairman Golam Gaus said the authority to determine ticket prices rests entirely with SAFF. His remarks clarified the division of responsibility between the regional governing body and the host federation over the pricing decision.

Training venues prepared for participating teams

Preparations are also under way to provide training facilities for the teams taking part in the championship. Several grounds, including Police Ground, the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) ground and Kings Arena, have been kept ready for training sessions.

Suitable training facilities are an important part of tournament preparations, allowing participating teams to prepare for their matches alongside the arrangements being made at the main venue. Officials are also focusing on stadium access and security, particularly because two matches are scheduled each day during the group stage.

Managing spectator entry and exit, maintaining security at different gates and ensuring smooth access for VIP guests will be key operational tasks. Effective co-ordination between SAFF and the BFF will be essential to keep the event running according to schedule.

The decision to allow two matches on one ticket is expected to offer greater convenience to spectators, who can watch both fixtures on the same day without paying for separate admission. However, the debate over ticket prices remains a concern as organisers work to attract supporters to the stadium.

With the opening date approaching, preparations are continuing across the playing and training venues, alongside arrangements for ticket sales and stadium security. The immediate priority for the organisers is to ensure that the championship begins on schedule and that spectators can enjoy the matches in a safe and orderly environment.
