Political analyst and former Member of Parliament Golam Mawla Rony has warned that extortion and mob violence are spreading at a geometric rate across the country. According to him, powerful actors in society are orchestrating mob violence from various angles, and ironically, the origin of their downfall, misery, and ruin lies within the very mobs they are now controlling. “Where their journey began, it is there their downfall shall occur,” he declared.
These remarks were made in a recent video message published on his personal YouTube channel.
Displacement of Former Extortionists
Rony observed that former extortionists within the Awami League have mostly faded away, leaving a vacuum which others are now ruthlessly vying to fill. Internal feuds, violent clashes, and even killings are being reported among groups attempting to maintain dominance over local extortion rackets. He warned that these individuals will soon be crushed by the very machine of extortion they are feeding.
Political Careers “Completely Rotten”
He further noted:
“Those who are currently promoting terrorism, extortion, and mob violence while reaping benefits from it—their political careers have completely rotted. The notion that they will rule the country in future, hold prestigious posts, or earn the respect and affection of the people, is utterly impossible and baseless.”
Rony stressed that an image of integrity is essential in politics. Once someone loses their public image, it is almost impossible to regain it.
Abuse of Power and Divine Tests
Reflecting on governance and morality, Rony stated:
“Those who abused power and deprived the people of their rights cannot return to power again. In this era, Allah has given many people significant opportunities. For some, it was a test of resisting the temptation of billions in wealth. If they could resist, they might have been granted authority. For others, it was a chance to exercise muscle power—but if they had chosen justice over mob violence, they could have been made wise, powerful, and truly victorious.”
No Visible Improvement Post-Awami Era
Rony drew comparisons between current and past regimes, specifically referencing post-5 August 2024 incidents. He questioned whether any reduction in criminal activity could be observed since then:
“From 5 August 2024 till now, have the crimes reduced in any way compared to those during the Awami League era? Has anything improved? Has there been any breath of relief?”
He concluded that a review of the situation would show no signs of good deeds, but rather a marked increase in wrongdoing.
