Daughter Claims Suicide After Farmer Found Dead in Bogura

A 57-year-old farmer was found dead with his throat slit inside his home in Shajahanpur upazila of Bogura on Saturday morning (31 October). His younger daughter has claimed that he took his own life because of illness, but police have yet to establish whether the death was a suicide or a murder.

The deceased was identified as Tulu Mia, a resident of Amrul Union in Shajahanpur. Police recovered his body from a room inside his house following the discovery.

According to local residents, Tulu Mia worked as a farmer and lived alone. His wife is employed abroad to support the family, while both of his daughters are married and live separately. As a result, he generally stayed at his home without other family members.

Tulu Mia had reportedly been suffering from a stomach-related illness for several days. Concerned about his health, his younger daughter had recently returned to her father’s home to look after him.

On Saturday morning, she discovered his body inside the house with his throat slit. The discovery raised immediate questions about the circumstances surrounding his death.

The daughter claimed that her father had taken his own life using a sharp boti, a traditional curved cutting blade commonly found in Bangladeshi households. According to her account, his physical illness had led him to end his life. However, this remains an unverified claim, and investigators have not reached any conclusion about the cause of death.

Ashik Iqbal, officer-in-charge of Shajahanpur Police Station, confirmed the recovery of the body. He said police had sent it to the morgue of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura for a post-mortem examination.

The police officer said it was not yet possible to determine whether Tulu Mia had died by suicide or had been murdered. The post-mortem report would be crucial in establishing the nature and cause of his death, he added.

He also confirmed that no case had been filed in connection with the incident as of Saturday.

The circumstances surrounding the death remain unclear. Police will need to assess the post-mortem findings alongside the available evidence and accounts from those familiar with the deceased. The daughter’s statement is an important part of the initial account, but it does not, by itself, establish how he died.

For now, investigators are treating the matter as unresolved. A clearer understanding of what happened inside the house is expected once the medical examination is completed and the findings become available.
