Mukesh Ambani Reclaims Asian Richest Title as Wealth Surges $8.5 Billion

A sharp rally in Reliance Industries shares propelled Mukesh Ambani’s net worth up by $8.5 billion in a single trading session, restoring him to the position of Asia’s wealthiest person. The Indian industrialist surpassed Zhang Yiming, co-founder and former chief executive of ByteDance, whose net worth stands at $84 billion.

According to the Forbes Real-Time Billionaires list, Ambani’s fortune rose by 10.5 per cent in a day to reach $88.8 billion. This surge elevated him to 23rd place in the global wealth rankings. The rapid appreciation in his holdings stems directly from a steep rise in the stock valuation of Reliance Industries, the energy-to-telecoms conglomerate he heads as chairman and managing director.

On the Bombay Stock Exchange, Reliance stock registered its highest single-day gain in over six years, advancing by 11.64 per cent to close at 1,299 rupees. The movement added more than $19 billion to the conglomerate’s total market capitalization within hours. Investors reacted to third-quarter financial results that significantly outperformed market expectations. For the July–September quarter, Reliance recorded revenues of 255.5 billion rupees ($2.7 billion), exceeding consensus analyst forecasts of 213.67 billion rupees ($2.33 billion). Operational momentum across the oil-to-chemicals segment and steady earnings growth in telecommunications fueled investor confidence.

The share price rally follows the public debut of Jio Platforms on 28 October. The digital services unit executed India’s largest initial public offering, raising $3.2 billion at an enterprise valuation of approximately $106 billion. On its first day of trading, Jio Platforms shares soared by 27 per cent, reinforcing liquidity and expanding market valuation across Ambani’s core assets.

Founded in 1957 by Dhirubhai Ambani, Reliance Industries has grown from a modest trading firm into India’s largest corporate entity by market capitalisation, valued at roughly $186 billion. Its operational scope spans oil and gas exploration, petrochemicals, retail, media, telecommunications, and financial services. In Forbes’ 2026 Global 2000 ranking of the world’s largest public companies, Reliance held the 55th position, backed by annual sales of $119.7 billion, total assets of $229.6 billion, and net profit of $9.1 billion.
