The arrested man, identified as Md Mozammel Haque, was detained on 2 November after members of an SRB-13 operational team recovered the narcotics from the fold of his lungyi (traditional lower garment). The information was confirmed on Wednesday morning by Biplab Kumar Goswami, Senior Assistant Director of SRB-13.
According to SRB-13, the operation was carried out as part of its ongoing anti-drug activities. Acting on a tip-off, a team from the Rangpur-based battalion went to the Bongram area of Kaunia upazila and conducted a search in front of the house of a man named Abdur Rahman.
During the search, the team found 955 yaba tablets concealed in the fold of Mozammel’s lungyi. He was arrested at the scene, and the seized tablets were taken into custody by the law enforcement personnel.
Mozammel, aged 45, is the son of the late Syed Ali and a resident of Paschim Anantapur village under Fulbari Police Station in Kurigram district. Although he was arrested in Rangpur, his permanent residence is in the neighbouring district of Kurigram.
Speaking about the operation, Biplab Kumar Goswami said SRB-13 had filed a case against the accused under the Narcotics Control Act in connection with the recovery. The arrested man and the seized yaba tablets were subsequently handed over to the relevant police station for further legal proceedings.
The recovery of 955 tablets represents a significant seizure in the operation. Yaba, a stimulant drug containing methamphetamine, is illegal in Bangladesh and remains a concern for law enforcement agencies because of its trafficking, distribution and harmful effects on public health.
Law enforcement agencies regularly conduct intelligence-led operations to identify individuals suspected of carrying or distributing illegal narcotics. Such operations involve searches, arrests and the seizure of suspected drugs, followed by investigations under the relevant legal provisions.
In this case, further action will be determined through the police investigation and subsequent judicial proceedings. Mozammel remains an accused in the case, and the allegations against him will be subject to the due legal process.
