Demra Krishak Dal Leader Receives Death Threat via Phone Call

A senior local political figure in Dhaka’s Demra area has lodged a general diary (GD) with the police after receiving a death threat over a mobile phone call from an individual allegedly affiliated with the local Chatra Dal leadership. The victim, Md Momin, Member Secretary of the Demra Thana Krishak Dal, filed the complaint late on Wednesday night following an intimidating incident outside his residence.

The situation unfolded at around 1:15 am on Wednesday night while Momin was inside his family home located on Mohakash Road in Demra. According to the police entry, Momin received an unexpected WhatsApp call on his mobile phone from an unknown number. The caller claimed that he and a group of associates were waiting directly underneath Momin’s building and ordered him to come downstairs immediately. When Momin refused, the caller issued direct threats to kill and severely injure both him and his family members at the first available opportunity.

The incident caused immediate fear and panic among Momin’s household, prompting him to seek urgent police protection against potential physical harm or targeted violence. However, complications arose when Momin attempted to submit his formal complaint at the Demra Police Station. Reports indicate that duty officers initially declined to register the GD when Momin specifically named the suspected local Chatra Dal leader involved. Ultimately, police accepted the filing later that night by logging the incident against an unidentified caller while documenting the specific phone number used in the WhatsApp interaction.

News of the death threat spread rapidly throughout the locality, sparking swift political backlash. Late on Wednesday night, activists and leaders from the Demra Thana Krishak Dal, alongside representatives from various affiliate political groups, staged a protest march in the Boro Bhanga area of Demra to condemn the intimidation attempt and demand action.

Addressing the situation, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Demra Police Station, Mohammad Taifur Rahman Mirza, confirmed that formal legal steps have been initiated regarding the complaint. He noted that the investigation remains ongoing and that officers are working to trace the origin of the call and determine the identity of those involved to ensure local safety and prevent further political tension in the precinct.
