The Government of Bangladesh has resolved to launch a national award in honour of the late teacher Mahrin Chowdhury, who heroically sacrificed her life to save students during the tragic plane crash at Milestone School and College in Uttara, Dhaka.
This decision was taken on Thursday, 7 August, at a meeting of the Advisory Council held at the Secretariat under the chairmanship of Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus
Official Statement Following the Advisory Meeting
Following the meeting, the Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary, Mohammad Shafiqul Alam, addressed the media with the following remarks:
“The Milestone tragedy was once again discussed. Consideration was given to honouring those who lost their lives—particularly the two teachers and one support staff member. Discussions focused on what special recognition might be conferred upon them. The final decision will be made public shortly.”
Mahrin Chowdhury Award for Outstanding Services
The Ministry of Education will soon announce a new national award named after Mahrin Chowdhury, to recognise acts of extraordinary bravery and dedication within the education sector. The award will be exclusively reserved for teachers.
