Joao Felix Pays Tribute to Late Diogo Jota: “Forever a Part of Football History”

Portuguese footballer Joao Felix has paid a heartfelt tribute to his national team colleague and close friend, Diogo Jota, following the Liverpool star’s tragic death at the age of 28.

Jota, along with his brother Andre Silva, lost his life on 3 July when their Lamborghini went off the road in northern Spain. In a tragic twist of fate, this occurred just 11 days after Jota married Rute Cardoso, the mother of his three children.

The Premier League commemorated Jota over the past weekend with a series of moving tributes. Felix, visibly emotional, joined the global football community in mourning the loss of his friend and international teammate.

“Diogo to me was one of my best friends in the national team. He was always part of our mini group in the squad, those of us who were always together,” Felix said.“I knew his family, especially his parents, an incredible family.”

Speaking from Hong Kong, where he is with his new club Al Nassr for the Saudi Super Cup, Felix added: “I think he will forever be a part of football history. He will remain in the hearts of those who were already close to him. After that day, every time we go on the field we will remember him and play in part for him.”

Felix was among the mourners at the funeral of the Jota brothers, demonstrating the depth of his friendship and respect for the family.

Felix, 25, recently joined Al Nassr from Chelsea in a deal reportedly valued at £43.7 million ($58 million). He now plays alongside fellow Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo.

His career path includes stints at some of Europe’s top clubs: Benfica, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, and AC Milan. Reports indicate that Felix will earn $10 million per year at his new Saudi club.
