Government Approves Procurement of LNG, Fertilizer, and Rock Sulphur

The government has approved separate proposals to procure three cargos of LNG, 245,000 metric tons of fertilizer, and 15,000 metric tons of rock sulphur to meet the growing demands of the country.

The approvals were granted during the 32nd meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase this year, held at the Cabinet Division Conference Room, Bangladesh Secretariat, chaired by Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, the Finance Adviser said: “There has been pressure on the government to raise energy prices, such as gas, every month or two. However, the interim government did not increase prices after careful calculations by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division. It is a positive development.”

He added: “Our aim is to ensure an adequate supply of LNG so that no pressure arises to increase energy prices, as such hikes would affect both consumers and industries. We are focusing on strengthening LNG supply while reducing pressure on the government. However, it is difficult to predict what the future may hold.”

Dr Salehuddin also stated that the government is purchasing LNG at comparatively reasonable prices.

Following proposals from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, Petrobangla will procure three LNG cargos from M/S Total Energies Gas and Power Limited, United Kingdom as follows:

Following separate proposals from the Ministries of Industries and Agriculture, the government will procure a total of 245,000 metric tons of fertilizer from various suppliers:

In addition, the government will procure 15,000 metric tons of rock sulphur (bright yellow sulphur/crude) from various sources at an estimated cost of Tk 71.42 crore.

This procurement plan aims to ensure uninterrupted supply of energy and agricultural inputs, supporting both industrial and agricultural sectors across the country.
