Dhaka, Bangladesh – Leading Bangladeshi film actor Shakib Khan posted a message on Facebook on 15 August, commemorating the martyrdom anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. In an interview with a national media outlet, Shakib Khan stated: “Look, our country is undergoing reforms in all sectors. I believed these reforms would also reflect in our thinking and mindset. In such a context, the memory of all the martyrs of the July uprising should be honoured without discrimination of party or ideology. Likewise, those outstanding sons of the nation who have sacrificed in the past for the country deserve our respect. Paying tribute to them should not be limited to the confines of any political party. The nation’s finest should always remain above politics.”

He continued: “Regrettably, the names, honour, and sacrifices of our nation’s greatest individuals are often exploited for political purposes. We must refrain from such practices. It is our moral duty to honour those who have devoted their lives for the country and its people. Rather than creating divisions around them, we should build collective unity and solidarity. As for me, Shakib Khan, I have never been affiliated with any political party, nor do I hold any political position or responsibility.”

Shakib Khan also revealed that he had received multiple proposals to enter politics over the years, which he consciously declined: “Over the past years, I have been offered opportunities to engage in politics, but I have deliberately avoided them to focus solely on cinema. I have never sought any political advantages. On the contrary, at times I have faced obstacles in my personal life from political figures, which is not unknown to the media.”
