Britain has received a record-breaking number of asylum applications, official data revealed on Thursday, intensifying pressure on the government regarding the housing of thousands of migrants in hotels.
According to figures released by the Home Office, a total of 111,084 people applied for asylum in the UK in the year ending June 2025. This is the highest annual total recorded since official records began in 2001.
