At Least 22 Presumed Dead After Boat Capsizes in Nigeria

At least 22 people are presumed dead following the capsizing of a boat in northwest Nigeria, authorities confirmed on Wednesday.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) reported that:

• 25 passengers were rescued shortly after the accident

Aliyu Kafindangi, NEMA’s head of operations in Sokoto, explained to local broadcaster Channels: “Search and rescue has been called off because it’s expected that after 24 hours, there is no chance of finding any survivors.”
