The Person in the Red T-shirt Was Not Beating Nur, But Someone Else: Rumour Scanner

A video circulating on social media showing a person in a red/brown shirt beating someone has been confirmed by the fact-checking site Rumour Scanner to not feature Gono Adhikar Parishad president Nurul Haq Nur as the victim.

The video gained widespread attention after a clash occurred on Friday (29th August) in the Bijoynagar area of the capital.

In a post shared on Rumour Scanner’s Facebook group on Saturday (30th August), it was clarified that, after reviewing several videos, it has been confirmed that the person being beaten was not Nur. The post further explained that during the baton charge by law enforcement, Nur did not have the opportunity to be beaten while sitting on the stairs. After the baton charge, he collapsed on the road and was quickly taken to a hospital.

The post also stated that efforts are underway to identify the person in the red shirt seen in the video. In one video, military personnel can be seen questioning him, and he claims to be a police officer. In another video, he is seen alongside police officers, and at one point, wearing a police helmet. Therefore, there is a possibility that he is a police officer. Rumour Scanner confirmed that an investigation is ongoing to verify this further.
