Swiss food and beverage giant Nestlé announced on Monday that it had dismissed Laurent Freixe as Chief Executive Officer with immediate effect due to an undisclosed romantic relationship with a direct subordinate.
The multinational, renowned for products such as Nespresso coffee capsules and KitKat chocolate bars, stated that Freixe’s removal followed the conclusion of a formal investigation.
In a rapid response, Philipp Navratil, CEO of Nestlé’s Nespresso division, was appointed by the board to assume the role of CEO.
Nestlé’s official statement clarified: “The departure of Laurent Freixe follows an investigation into an undisclosed romantic relationship with a direct subordinate, which breached Nestlé’s code of business conduct.”
The board of directors had commissioned an investigation, overseen by Chairman Paul Bulcke and Lead Independent Director Pablo Isla, supported by external legal counsel.
Chairman Bulcke emphasised the importance of corporate governance and values, stating: “This was a necessary decision. Nestlé’s values and governance are strong foundations of our company. I thank Laurent for his years of service.”
