West Indies Tour Bangladesh in October: Three Venues Confirmed

The West Indies cricket team is scheduled to tour Bangladesh next month, featuring a series of three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). The Caribbean team is expected to arrive in Bangladesh on 15 October, with the series scheduled to run from 18 October to 1 November.

The series will commence with the ODI format, with matches distributed across three venues:

Format Number of Matches Venue Notes
ODI 2 Sylhet International Stadium Opening two ODIs
ODI 1 Chittagong Final ODI
T20I 1 Chittagong First T20I
T20I 2 Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Mirpur Final two T20Is

A source from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed this schedule to Dhaka Post.

Bangladesh last faced West Indies in a series at the end of last year. In that three-match T20I series on Caribbean soil, Bangladesh whitewashed the West Indies for the first time there, marking their first three-match T20I series win abroad since 2012 against Ireland.

  • ODI Series: Bangladesh suffered a reverse whitewash.
  • Test Series: The preceding two-match Test series ended in a 1-1 draw.

This history sets the stage for the upcoming encounter, with Bangladesh aiming to maintain momentum in limited-overs formats.

The upcoming BCB elections are also drawing attention, set to take place in the first week of October. Initially overshadowed by national election activities, there were rumours that the current president Aminul Islam Bulbul might remain in position and an ad hoc committee could replace the election process.

  • On 24 August, the Dhaka Cricket Club Organisers Association protested in Mirpur regarding these discussions.
  • The unexpected involvement of former national captain Tamim Iqbal has added further attention to the electoral process.

On 1 September, a BCB board meeting was held in Sylhet at a five-star hotel at 2:00 pm, where the upcoming elections were among the main discussion points.

A BCB source told Dhaka Post that the elections are likely to be held on 4 October.

The West Indies tour and the BCB elections together mark a significant month for Bangladeshi cricket, blending on-field competition with administrative developments.
