What Bulbul Said about Competing with Tamim and Faruk

Around three months ago, Aminul Islam Bulbul, the former national captain, took charge as the President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). At that time, he had made it clear that he had no intention of remaining in the position for long. However, Bulbul has since revised his decision and has now announced that he will contest as a director candidate in the upcoming BCB elections.

During a visit to the Sylhet District Stadium yesterday, Bulbul inspected the facilities and infrastructure. While speaking to the media there, he revealed his intention to participate in the BCB elections. He stated: “I want to contribute further to cricket in our country, as and when required.”

Later in the afternoon, addressing the press once again, Bulbul elaborated: “When I first took on this responsibility, I had some specific goals. I have already seen some initial success. With my ‘Triple Century’ programme still underway, I felt it would not be right to abandon it halfway. I will appeal to everyone so that we can complete these initiatives successfully. For that reason, I want to continue.”

Bulbul admitted that stepping down midway could waste the efforts already made. Hence, he felt the need to continue:

In his own words: “Firstly, it’s the love of Bangladesh cricket that inspires me. Secondly, I realised that carrying on is essential at this moment, otherwise much of the work could go to waste.”

There has already been speculation that the forthcoming BCB elections may turn into a contest between Tamim Iqbal and Bulbul. Responding to this, Bulbul clarified: “I don’t consider it a competition. It will depend entirely on those who will cast their votes. But yes, I have heard the names of others, such as Faruk Bhai and Tamim. I have only respect, affection and support for them.”
