JACSUS Election: Vote Counting Still Underway

The vote counting process for the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JACSUS) and hall union elections is still ongoing.

According to the Election Commission, the aim is to announce the results by Friday, 12 September, around noon.

The election has not been free from controversy. Chhatra Dal boycotted the polls alleging irregularities. Alongside them, four more panels declared withdrawal from the election:

  • Shompritir Oikya (Unity of Harmony)
  • Songshoptok Parishad (Resolute Council)
  • Swadhin Aongikar Parishad (Independent Commitment Council)
  • Partial Panel of Socialist Student Front

In addition, several independent candidates expressed solidarity and also boycotted the election. Candidates from the Progressive Students’ Alliance panel demanded a fresh election.

 

Following the start of counting at 10:15 pm on Thursday night, Professor A.K.M. Rashidul Alam, Member Secretary of the JACSUS Election Commission, said:

  • The counting would take the entire night.
  • The final results are expected to be announced by Friday noon.

He further highlighted that this year’s election witnessed remarkable student participation, with around 68% casting their votes.
