This year, a total of 585 puja mandaps will be set up across all seven upazilas of Gaibandha district for the upcoming Sharadiya Durga Puja, the most significant religious festival for the Hindu community.

The announcement was made this morning by Principal Paresh Chandra Saha, President of the Bangladesh Puja Utjapon Parishad, Gaibandha district unit.

This represents an increase of 24 mandaps compared with last year.

Festival Schedule

  • Commencement: 27 September
  • Conclusion: 2 October (with the immersion of idols in rivers, ponds, canals, and other water bodies)
  • Duration: Five days

Principal Saha confirmed that preparations are advancing rapidly in all upazilas as the festival approaches. Like previous years, a preparatory meeting was held between the district administration and Puja Utjapon Parishad leaders at the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) conference room on Monday. Several important decisions were finalised to ensure a smooth and peaceful celebration.

Superintendent of Police (SP Nishat Angella) assured the Hindu community of comprehensive security arrangements:

  • Deployment of Police, Ansar, VDP members, and Gram Police at every puja mandap.
  • RAB patrols on the roads throughout the district to maintain law and order.
  • Stern legal action against anyone attempting to cause disturbances during the festival.

The SP added that every possible step would be taken so devotees may celebrate with enthusiasm, joy, and religious fervour.
