Tragedy struck in the Nalchity Upazila of Jhalokathi on Saturday evening when 20-year-old college student Nazmul Islam lost his life after being electrocuted at his family home.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:00 PM in Baichandi village, leaving the local community in shock. Nazmul, the son of Md. Shahjahan Hawladar, was a diligent student of the 11th grade at Nalchity Government Degree College.

According to family members and local sources, the young student was attempting to repair a faulty electrical connection in his home when the accident took place. Eyewitnesses stated that while performing the repair, Nazmul was inadvertently electrocuted and collapsed immediately. His family rushed him to the Nalchity Upazila Health Complex, where doctors performed the necessary examinations but, unfortunately, could not revive him. He was officially declared dead upon arrival.

The local police have confirmed the tragic event. Officer-in-Charge of Nalchity Police Station, Mr. Ariful Alam, stated that, as the family did not file any complaint, the body was handed over to the relatives without a post-mortem. An unnatural death case will be recorded at the police station for official purposes.

This unfortunate event has raised concerns about the safety of domestic electrical systems in rural areas. Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution and, whenever possible, seek professional assistance for electrical repairs to prevent such tragedies in the future.
