A hint of clearing fog in the capital, temperatures may rise

The dense fog that blanketed Dhaka and surrounding areas this morning is expected to gradually dissipate, with daytime temperatures likely to experience a slight increase. This forecast was issued by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) on Tuesday, 6 January, covering the six-hour period from 7:00 am.

According to the BMD, the early hours of the day may witness partially cloudy skies, with generally dry conditions prevailing. Light to moderate fog is likely to linger until late morning, while gentle north-western or northern winds blowing at 5 to 10 kilometres per hour are expected to facilitate the thinning of the fog. The daytime temperature is anticipated to rise marginally as the day progresses.

As per the latest observations, Dhaka recorded a temperature of 13.5°C at 6:00 am, with humidity levels around 80 percent. The city’s minimum temperature for the day has been logged at 13.3°C, while Monday’s maximum temperature reached 18.8°C. Notably, there has been no recorded rainfall in the capital over the past 24 hours.

Maximum Temperature (Mon) 18.8°C

The Meteorological Department has also issued a nationwide outlook, predicting generally dry weather with partially cloudy skies until 6:00 pm. From midnight to morning, moderate to dense fog may form across various regions, potentially persisting in some areas until early afternoon.

Authorities have warned that dense fog could temporarily disrupt air travel, domestic water transport, and road traffic, urging commuters to exercise caution.

Residents are advised to take necessary precautions during foggy periods, including the use of headlights while driving and allowing extra travel time. While the fog is expected to thin by midday, cooler conditions may linger in northern and western districts until later in the day.

Overall, the combination of receding fog and slightly rising temperatures is expected to bring more comfortable daytime conditions in the capital, although intermittent patches of low visibility may remain in some localities.
