A tragic incident has cast a shadow of grief over a village in Dhunat upazila of Bogura district, where a four-year-old boy drowned in a pond while visiting his maternal grandparents’ home during the Eid holiday.
The deceased, Ayman Ali (4), was the son of Anwar Hossain from Sonargao village. According to local accounts, he had travelled with his mother, Aleya Khatun, to Mobuakhal village in Gosainbari Union, Dhunat, to spend the Eid holiday with his maternal grandfather, Ahed Ali.
The incident occurred on Thursday (26 March) at around 4:30 pm. On the afternoon of the tragedy, Ayman had gone out to play football near the family residence. While playing, the ball reportedly rolled into a nearby pond. In an attempt to retrieve it, the child entered the water but unfortunately slipped beneath the surface.
When he did not return, family members and locals began searching for him. After some time, his lifeless body was found floating in the pond. He was then recovered with the assistance of local residents. Despite efforts to rescue him, he had already died by the time he was brought out of the water.
The incident has left the entire area in deep mourning. What had been a home filled with Eid joy turned into a scene of sorrow and distress within moments. Family members and neighbours were seen grieving, as the sudden loss of such a young child shocked the community.
Authorities later confirmed that necessary legal procedures were completed and the body was handed over to the family.
A police official from Dhunat Police Station stated that the post-incident formalities were carried out and the body was released to the relatives after due process.
