Akhi Alamgir and Milton Khondokar Reunite After 27 Years

After an interval of nearly three decades, celebrated Bangladeshi playback singer Akhi Alamgir has returned to the studio in a collaboration that carries deep artistic and emotional resonance. Her reunion with lyricist and composer Milton Khondokar, 27 years after their first association, marks a notable moment in the country’s contemporary music landscape—one that bridges nostalgia with renewed creative energy.

Akhi Alamgir first lent her voice to Milton Khondokar’s composition in the late 1990s, when she performed the song “Eto Chhoto Jonom Niya Jogote Ashiya” for the film Asami Bodhu. That track, set to music by the late and revered composer Alam Khan, went on to achieve widespread acclaim, becoming a defining piece of popular cinema music of its era. Now, after a long wait, the two artists have come together once again for a new song titled “Jora Shalik”. The piece has been specially produced for Bangladesh Television’s popular magazine programme Boithokkhana. Significantly, this marks the first time Akhi Alamgir has performed an original song written and composed entirely by Milton Khondokar, adding an extra layer of artistic significance to the collaboration.

The recording took place during the recent shooting of the programme, with both artists present on set. Milton Khondokar later shared glimpses of the session on social media, describing the experience in deeply personal terms. He reflected that, for years, he would tell Akhi Alamgir that working together remained an unfulfilled wish. Hearing her finally bring life to his words and melody, he wrote, felt like a dormant song being revived—an affirmation of creative fulfilment after years of anticipation.
