On 5 August 2025 (Tuesday), all scheduled banks across Bangladesh will remain closed for the entire day, including transaction and banking operations, in observance of the ‘July People’s Uprising Day’.
This closure was announced in a recent circular issued by the Offsite Supervision Department of Bangladesh Bank. The directive aligns with a Cabinet Division gazette notification dated 2 July 2025, which designated 5 August as a public observance day.

The circular, signed by Gazi Md Mahfuzul Islam, Director of the Department of Offsite Supervision (DOS), confirms that the holiday is being enforced in accordance with official government decision.
It is noteworthy that from now on, 5 August will be observed annually as ‘July People’s Uprising Day’ in Bangladesh, marking a significant addition to the nation’s commemorative calendar.
