Bangladesh began their Super Four campaign in the Asia Cup with a victory and are set to face India tomorrow, 24 September. Fans and analysts alike are asking whether the Tigers can overcome the mighty Indian side. Former Bangladesh captain Mohammad Ashraful believes that if the team gives their maximum effort, defeating India is entirely possible.
Ashraful expressed optimism regarding Bangladesh’s performance in the Super Four stage. Speaking to the media on Monday, he said: “We have beaten India in a T20 match on their own ground before. If the match day favours us, and if everyone gives their absolute best, then it is possible to defeat India.”
He highlighted that confidence is boosted by Oman’s impressive batting against India: “When I saw Oman’s performance before the Super Four match against India, I felt that given how well they batted, we also have a good chance to perform strongly in this stage.”
Ashraful also lauded the Bangladesh bowlers in their opening match against Sri Lanka: “I think we played excellent cricket against Sri Lanka. Especially Mustafizur and Sheikh Mehedi bowled superbly. Taskin also bowled well. Shariful, though expensive at times, performed admirably.”

Ashraful’s comments reflect a blend of confidence and realism, emphasising that while India is a formidable opponent, a fully committed Bangladesh team can challenge them.
