Attack on Nur and Lutfur Proves Hasina’s Associates Are Still Active: Dudu

BNP Vice-Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu has alleged that the recent assaults on Nurul Haque Nur, President of Gano Adhikar Parishad, and Lutfur Rahman, President of Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (JAGPA), demonstrate that Sheikh Hasina and her associates remain active despite being in hiding.

He made the remarks on Wednesday, 3 September, while addressing a rally in front of the National Press Club, organised by the movement “Desh Bachao, Manush Bachao Andolon” (Save the Country, Save the People).

Dudu stated: “After the 2024 mass uprising, people naturally believed that dictatorship had fallen, and Sheikh Hasina and her cohorts had fled. But within a year, the tragic situation we are facing proves otherwise.”

Condemning the attacks on Nur and Lutfur, he added: “These assaults were carried out with the clear intention of killing them. No matter how powerful the perpetrators are, they must be brought under the law. It is unacceptable that the attackers roam free, while those injured in the 2024 uprising remain in danger.”

The BNP leader launched a strong attack on the Awami League and its allies:

  • For 16 years, Awami League “oppressed the people and looted the nation’s wealth.”
  • The Jatiya Party allegedly provided tacit support throughout this period.
  • The 14-party alliance has now gone into hiding.
  • Hasina and several Awami League leaders have fled to India.

Dudu further alleged “Over the past 16 years, the Awami League engaged in looting, abductions, and killings on a scale unseen in the last 54 years. Our neighbouring country India has given shelter to Sheikh Hasina and thousands of looters. In the name of friendship, India is attempting to kill democracy in Bangladesh.”

The rally was presided over by K M Rokibul Islam Ripon, President of Desh Bachao, Manush Bachao Andolon.

Other attendees included

  • Lion Faruk Rahman, Chairman of National Labour Party
  • S K Sadi, Former Office Secretary of BNP’s Krishak Dal
  • Jasim Uddin Kabir, President of the Jatiyatabadi Drivers’ Association
  • Along with several other BNP-affiliated leaders and activists
