Attempted Sabotage on Railway Line Foiled, Hundreds of Passengers Saved

Near Madhanagar Railway Station in Nalhati Upazila of Natore district, miscreants attempted a major act of sabotage by wrapping an iron chain around the railway line and locking it with a padlock. However, timely intervention by police and railway authorities prevented a serious accident, thereby saving hundreds of passengers.

The incident occurred around 10 pm on Sunday night (3 August) at the Palashitala area, located on the southern side of Madhanagar Railway Station.

According to police and local sources, a passerby noticed the iron chain and padlock on the railway tracks and immediately alerted local residents. The news was swiftly conveyed to the Nalhati police station and the railway station authorities. Responding promptly, officers from Nalhati police and the station master, with the assistance of a mechanic, arrived at the scene and cut through the chain to clear the tracks.

The sabotage caused the delay of the Shimanat Express, Neelsagar Express, and Ekota Express trains, which departed several hours later than scheduled. Nonetheless, train operations resumed normalcy by nightfall.

Ujjal Ali, Station Master of Madhanagar Railway Station, stated:

“As soon as we received the news, we rushed to the spot and cut through the lock and chain. We suspect this was a deliberate act of sabotage.”

Rafiqul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nalhati Police Station, commented:

“Upon receiving the information, police arrived at the scene during the night and removed the chain from the railway line. The investigation is ongoing to identify the perpetrators, who will be brought to justice under the law.”

Local residents have expressed deep concern over the attempted sabotage, describing it as highly alarming. They have demanded a swift and thorough investigation and exemplary punishment for those responsible.

This prompt response by law enforcement and railway authorities ensured the safety of countless passengers and prevented what could have been a catastrophic incident.
