Awami League Stages Armed Show on Highway in Faridpur, Traffic Movement Halted

Awami League activists blocked several points of the Dhaka–Khulna and Barishal highways in Bhanga Upazila of Faridpur, centering on the party’s announced “lockdown” program.

On Thursday (November 13), from early morning, Awami League leaders and activists in the Suadi, Pukhuria, and Puliya areas staged protests by burning tires and brandishing local weapons, including shields, swords, machetes, cleavers, and spears. They also chanted various slogans during the demonstration.

As a result, all vehicular movement on the Bhanga–Dhaka Expressway and the Faridpur–Barishal highway came to a standstill. Law enforcement personnel later arrived at the scene.

Bhanga Highway Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rakibuzzaman said that Awami League activists had blocked roads at three points in Bhanga, and police were working to disperse them. Traffic movement remains suspended for now.
