Bangladesh Secures Football Use of Three Stadiums

Despite being established 53 years ago, the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) has yet to possess its own dedicated stadium. Addressing this longstanding issue, members of the current BFF committee met today with Asif Nazrul, Advisor to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, at the BFF headquarters, requesting access to multiple stadiums for football purposes.

Advisor Nazrul assured the federation officials that three major stadiums—the Dhaka National Stadium, Sylhet District Stadium, and Chattogram District Stadium—would now be made primarily available for football. However, this allocation comes with a key condition: BFF can use these venues freely for football, provided that other sporting events, excluding cricket, may also take place if necessary.

As Nazrul explained,
“We have decided to allocate Dhaka, Sylhet, and Chattogram stadiums primarily for football. The condition is that if tournaments of other sports, except cricket, need to be held, the facilities will be made available for those events as well.”

BFF President Tabith Awal expressed optimism regarding the federation’s future access to additional stadiums. Speaking to reporters outside the BFF building, he said,
“We always place our faith in assurances. We are starting with two stadiums, but with collective effort and a focus on the national and footballing interest, we hope to gain access to several more in the future.”

During the meeting, the BFF committee also reviewed their achievements over the past year and discussed strategic plans for the coming year with the sports ministry advisor. Tabith Awal emphasised the importance of continued government support, both financially and infrastructurally, saying,
“Today, we shared our upcoming one-year action plan with the Advisor. We also requested that the government’s support, already provided in terms of finances and infrastructure, continue for at least the next year.”

The following table summarises the current stadium allocation and conditions:

Stadium Location Primary Use Conditions
Dhaka National Stadium Dhaka Football Other non-cricket sports allowed as needed
Sylhet District Stadium Sylhet Football Other non-cricket sports allowed as needed
Chattogram District Stadium Chattogram Football Other non-cricket sports allowed as needed

This development marks a significant step in Bangladesh football’s infrastructural progress. Federation officials have expressed confidence that this initial allocation will bolster domestic competitions, support grassroots development, and create opportunities for hosting international matches in the near future
