BCB Invites Applications for National Cricket Selectors

In a departure from traditional recruitment methods, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially issued a public advertisement to fill two vacant positions within the National Selection Panel. For the first time, the board has transparently outlined the stringent criteria and professional expectations required to help shape the future of Bangladeshi cricket.

Transitional Leadership

The recruitment drive comes at a pivotal moment for the board. Although his formal contract has expired, the current Chief Selector, Gazi Ashraf Hossain, has agreed to a one-month extension at the BCB’s request to oversee the transition. It is widely anticipated that one of the two successful new applicants will eventually be elevated to the role of Chief Selector once the induction process is complete.

Essential Qualifications and Selection Criteria

The BCB is searching for individuals who possess not only a deep understanding of the game but also the analytical rigour required for modern high-performance sports. Candidates are not strictly required to have represented the national team, but they must boast a significant professional playing pedigree.

Table: BCB Selection Panel Eligibility and Requirements

Criterion Minimum Requirement / Specification
Playing Experience At least 100 combined appearances in First-Class and List ‘A’ cricket.
Technical Knowledge Comprehensive understanding of “Modern Cricket” across all three formats.
Soft Skills Proven leadership, decisive decision-making, and high ethical standards.
Operational Skills Proficiency in data analysis, strategic reporting, and communication.
Logistics Willingness to travel extensively, both domestically and internationally.

Scope of Work and Responsibilities

The role extends far beyond merely naming the squad for the senior Men’s National Team (Test, ODI, and T20I). The appointed selectors will be responsible for identifying talent across the entire professional pathway in Bangladesh.

Talent Identification: Selecting squads for Bangladesh ‘A’, the High Performance (HP) unit, and the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

Domestic Scouting: Physically attending National Cricket League (NCL) and Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) matches to monitor form.

Data Management: Maintaining an exhaustive performance database to track player trajectories over several seasons.

Strategic Liaison: Collaborating closely with the National Head Coach and team management to align selection with on-field tactics.

How to Apply

Prospective candidates who meet the 100-match threshold and possess the necessary analytical skills are invited to submit their applications. Submissions must include an up-to-date CV, a recent photograph, and an expected salary range.

Applications should be directed via email to job@bcbcricket.com. The deadline for submission is 8 March 2026.
