BCB Recruitment Probe Announced

The government of Bangladesh has announced plans to launch a formal investigation into alleged irregularities and unlawful appointments within the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), in a move aimed at restoring transparency and accountability in the country’s cricket administration.

The development was disclosed on Sunday during a parliamentary session by the State Minister for Youth and Sports, Aminul Haque. He informed lawmakers that authorities intend to scrutinise appointments and benefits allegedly secured through politically influenced recruitment processes dating back to 2008.

According to the minister, a number of individuals are believed to have gained positions and advantages within the BCB through what he described as partisan interference. He said the government would soon form an inquiry committee to identify those involved and bring the findings before the public.

“We will investigate all irregular appointments made through political influence since 2008,” he stated in Parliament, adding that the results would be disclosed “in the interest of the nation.”

The minister further alleged that during previous administrations, the country’s sports sector—particularly cricket—suffered from widespread politicisation. He claimed that this had contributed to institutional stagnation and weakened governance structures within sporting bodies. The current administration, he added, is working to depoliticise sports institutions in line with directives from the head of government.

During the question-and-answer session, a member of parliament from Bogura-4 constituency raised concerns regarding the overall governance of the BCB. In response, the minister reiterated that any officials found to be involved in misconduct, including abuse of authority or manipulation of electoral rights within the board, would face appropriate action following investigation.

He also referred to concerns regarding the financial affairs and personal asset declarations of certain officials and staff members of the cricket board. The minister said that the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) may be requested to examine any relevant allegations and share findings with the authorities for further action.
