Bangladesh Claim Asian Archery Gold in Compound Team Event

Bangladesh have secured a significant gold medal at the Asian Archery Tournament in Bangkok, Thailand, triumphing over Vietnam in the compound men’s team event final on Friday morning.

The victory comes as a welcome boost for Bangladeshi sport, particularly after the national football team suffered a defeat against Vietnam only a day earlier. The archery success, however, has ensured that Bangladesh’s sporting spotlight remains firmly positive on the international stage.

Commanding performance in the final

In the decisive match, the Bangladeshi compound trio of Himu Basar, Rakib Nowaj and Aishwarya delivered a composed and consistent performance against a strong Vietnamese side. Demonstrating accuracy and teamwork under pressure, the Bangladesh team accumulated a total of 231 points.

Vietnam, despite putting up a competitive display, finished with 225 points, handing Bangladesh a six-point margin of victory and the championship title.

Final result summary

Category Bangladesh Vietnam Outcome
Compound Men’s Team Final 231 points 225 points Bangladesh won gold

The result reflects a disciplined and focused performance from the Bangladeshi archers, who maintained their advantage throughout the contest and held their nerve in the closing stages of the final.

Continued rise in Asian archery

Bangladesh’s success in Bangkok adds to a growing list of achievements in continental archery competitions. While the country has historically enjoyed greater success in recurve events, recent performances in compound disciplines indicate a broader strengthening of the sport nationally.

Last year, Bangladeshi archer Abdul Rahman Alif won gold in the recurve men’s individual event at the same tournament, further highlighting the country’s emerging presence in Asian archery competitions.

Institutional support and recognition

The achievement has also drawn attention from key figures in the country’s archery administration. Kazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed Chapol, President of both the Bangladesh Archery Federation and the Asian Archery Federation, had previously announced financial rewards for medal-winning athletes, reflecting efforts to incentivise continued excellence in the sport.

Officials within the federation have consistently emphasised the importance of developing both recurve and compound disciplines to ensure Bangladesh remains competitive at regional and international levels.

Growing momentum for Bangladesh archery

Bangladesh’s archery programme has made steady progress in recent years, with improved training facilities, international exposure, and targeted development initiatives contributing to rising performance standards.

The latest gold medal is expected to further boost confidence within the squad and provide additional motivation ahead of future international competitions. Sports analysts have noted that consistent podium finishes at Asian-level events signal a promising trajectory for Bangladeshi archers.

Looking ahead

With this latest triumph, Bangladesh not only secures a prestigious continental title but also reinforces its growing reputation in archery beyond traditional recurve events. The victory in Bangkok is expected to encourage further investment in the sport and strengthen preparation for upcoming international tournaments.

As celebrations continue within the national camp, attention will now turn to sustaining this momentum and building on a result that highlights both talent and potential within Bangladesh’s expanding archery programme.
