Land Ministry Uncovers Fraud and Hands Impostor to Police

A recruitment fraud attempt within Bangladesh’s Ministry of Land came to light on Sunday when officials detained a fraudster trying to secure a civil service post using false credentials. Following a thorough document verification process, ministry officials handed the suspect over to Shahbagh Police Station, signaling a firm stance against fraudulent practices in public recruitment.
The incident originates from a recruitment drive launched by the ministry to fill 37 vacant posts across seven categories, ranging from the 11th to 20th grades. Following a selection procedure involving preliminary, written, and viva voce examinations, appointment letters were issued to successful candidates on 13 August 2026. In accordance with official guidelines, 34 candidates submitted their formal joining letters to the Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Land on 1 October 2026.
Regular administrative oversight led to the discovery of the fraud on 4 October, when ministry officials carried out a secondary verification of photos, identification documents, and credentials submitted by the joining candidates. Severe discrepancies emerged regarding a candidate listed as Md. Maidul Islam (roll number: 17002707), son of Md. Abdul Hai and Mosleha Begum, hailing from Tetulia village in the Kaliganj upazila of Lalmonirhat district.
Detailed cross-checking revealed distinct physical differences between the individual present at the ministry and the photograph and biometric records archived during the oral examination. A handwriting analysis provided further confirmation, showing a clear mismatch between the sample written during the viva voce and the handwriting of the person attempting to join.
To verify suspicions, ministry officials convened a confrontation in the presence of other joining employees. None of the newly appointed staff could identify the suspect as Md. Maidul Islam, nor could the individual recognise any of his peers. The evidence confirmed that a proxy candidate had sat the examinations on behalf of the original applicant, after which an impostor attempted to complete the joining formalities.
Enforcing a zero-tolerance stance on administrative corruption, the ministry treated the offense as a severe criminal violation. The suspect was immediately handed over to Sub-Inspector Md. Abul Kalam of Shahbagh Police Station, with criminal proceedings underway. Ministry officials reiterated that stringent verification measures will remain in place across all recruitment phases to safeguard transparency and institutional integrity.
