BNP Leader Removed from Presidency Over Extortion Allegations

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has suspended all party positions of Sahab Uddin, President of the Companiganj Upazila BNP in Sylhet, following allegations of extortion, illegal land grabbing, and engaging in multiple unethical activities in violation of party principles and ideology.

The announcement was made late on Monday, 11 August, at around 11:30 pm, via the BNP’s verified Facebook page. It came in the form of an official statement signed by Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Senior Joint Secretary General of the BNP Central Committee.

According to the statement, based on specific and verified allegations, Sahab Uddin was removed from his post. Haji Abdul Mannan, the Vice-President of the Upazila BNP, has been appointed as Acting President until further instructions are issued.

When contacted, Sahab Uddin responded briefly: “I am not aware of anything yet,” he said before ending the call, citing that he was in a meeting.

Local BNP leaders stated that the decision was taken to protect the party’s image and maintain organisational discipline.
