Humming Sound in Exam Hall Leads to Arrest and Jail of Candidate and Staff

An unusual incident occurred during the recruitment examination for the position of Sub-Food Inspector in Patuakhali, Bangladesh, when a faint humming sound from the exam hall led to the discovery of an electronic device being used for cheating. Following an investigation, one examinee and two school employees were sentenced to seven days’ imprisonment without labour by an Executive Magistrate.

The verdict was delivered on Saturday (25 October) by Rezwana Chowdhury, Executive Magistrate of Patuakhali District Administration.

Individuals Convicted

Executive Magistrate Rezwana Chowdhury reported that an invigilator noticed an unusual humming sound in the exam hall, which aroused suspicion. Upon searching, officials found a hidden electronic communication device with one of the candidates. During questioning, the examinee confessed to receiving help from two staff members of the school.

After verifying the evidence, all three individuals were convicted under Section 128 of the Penal Code, 1860, and sentenced accordingly.

Rahima Rimi, the Head Teacher of Sher-e-Bangla Secondary School, confirmed the events, saying: “During the examination in Room No. 19, we received complaints about the use of an electronic device. The Executive Magistrate and I immediately went to the spot, and upon confirming the allegations, the trio were punished on the spot.”

The Sub-Food Inspector (13th Grade) recruitment MCQ examination was held on Saturday (25 October) across multiple centres nationwide, including Patuakhali.

The swift action by the authorities has been praised as an example of maintaining strict integrity and transparency in Bangladesh’s public recruitment process.
